How do I start an RDP session from powershell? I'm looking to avoid a custom script because I work at an MSP and end up remoting into machines across various domains in a day and so maintaining a selection of scripts across each is not trivial (unless you have a solution to that for me).

Same as in command line, you can launch the RDP client as so:
Raf- Download the RDP 8.0 update. For more information about the RDP 8.0 update for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, see Remote Desktop Protocol 8.0 Update for Windows 7 SP1: Enabling a great WAN user experience for Windows 7 SP1 virtual desktops. Last Updated: Apr 17, 2018.
- Run command for Remote desktop manager. There is no Run command for opening remote desktop connection manager directly. It is usually installed in the path C: Program Files Remote Desktop Connection Manager RDCman.exe. By specifying this complete path we can launch connection manager. Terminals is a secure, multi tab terminal services/remote desktop client. RDP, VNC, VMRC, SSH, Telnet, RAS, ICA Citrix, HTTP and HTTPs based protocols are integrated. It uses Terminal Services ActiveX Client (mstscax.dll). The project started from the need of controlling multiple connections simultaneously. It is a complete replacement for the mstsc.exe (Terminal Services) client. This is official source moved from Codeplex. See features list
